Bring the MINI Cooper D to the USA!

I really love the MINI Coopers: they are tiny, they are fast, they are stylish, they are sexy. They get great fuel economy for gasoline cars as well. But they aren't available in diesel in the United States. The 2008 MINI Cooper D gets up to 64.2 mpg on the highway, with a combined economy of around 59 mpg. After having owned a Jetta TDI for the past two years, getting around 45 mpg average, I can't really justify stepping down to a lower fuel economy -- especially as gas prices soar. Furthermore, a diesel-powered MINI could be powered by biodiesel, which ultimately will be much cheaper than even petroleum-based diesel.

Of course, car companies, as dumb as they are, refuse to bring more diesel cars to the States until people are screaming so loud they can't shut out the voices anymore. BMW, which I used to think of as a smart company, is obviously much less intelligent as they will not bring the MINI Cooper diesel to the United States. They just won't let us have good fuel economy! Can't let it happen. But I want them to know that the rest of the country that loves MINIs would LOVE a diesel-powered variety that gets over 60mpg. You could cross the country on 50 gallons of fuel! With an 11-gallon tank you would have to refill five times!

Anyway, enough ranting on my unhappiness with the way car companies enslave us. Here's the petition:

Sign it! We will show it to BMW and force them to bring the MINI Cooper D over to our shores.
